On February 8th, UBC Department of Asian Studies hosted its Lunar New Year Celebration at the Nest to celebrate the Year of the Pig. Unlike previous years, the department moved the venue to the Nest in hoping to create a larger platform for cultural exchange between the East and the West. Having the support from Chinese program, Cantonese program, Korean program, and UBC Chinese Music Club throughout the years, the Lunar New Year celebration has become the true experiences that make up the colours of our tapestry of diversity. Huge thanks to all participating students for their splendid performances and everyone for stepping into the realm and celebrating this festive occasion with us. On Thursday, February 28, the Chinese Language Program hosted the 2019 UBC Lantern Festival Chinese Poetry Night to celebrate the fifteenth day of the first Chinese lunar month at the UBC Asian Centre. This year's poetry night included an exciting poetry contest and splendid recitals of Chinese poems. Our top-notch contestants, carefully selected from our Chinese language courses, did not disappoint the audiences with their beautiful performances. The festival was brought together by our Faculty members, Teaching Assistants (TA), Work Learns (WL), and Student volunteers. On November 23rd, 2018, The Chinese Language Program hosted its first Heritage Final Project Festival, which was held at UBC Nest Lower Level. The festival was to allow UBC's Chinese Heritage students to investigate China from different perspectives, enhance and broaden intercultural comprehension and perspectives, as well as promote Chinese culture and introduce the Chinese society and culture to a broader audience through presentations, interpersonal and interpretative language skills The festival was brought together by our Faculty members, Teaching Assistants (TA), Work Learns (WL), UBC Hanfu Culture Society, volunteers, as well as our Chinese Heritage learners from CHIN 141, 241, 341, 345, 441, and 445.
